Newberg Tigers vs. Lightening Rockets |
Final Score: LR 49; NH 41
What an exciting game! I've very nearly gone hoarse from cheering.
Impressive: After the event, I was talking with the mother of of one of the girls on the team (Maria, see photo 2), and she informed me that the event had been organized (fundraisers and all) by 2 high school seniors as their senior project. Both are peer tutors with the special needs class at Newberg High.
The students had an amazing time playing ball with their peers, while the audience, in true sportsmanlike nature, cheered them on and sneered at the opposing team. The varsity team was made up of both guys and gals from Newberg's teams, and they put up a good fight. But the Lightening Rockets were on fire tonight - really, they were fantastic! Not only was the crowd kept entertained by the game, but also by comic relief provided announcer, (and my former high school chemistry teacher) Scott Klug.
Many local businesses such as The French Bear, Coyote Joe's Coffee Company, and Ella Blue's Salon gave generously to the cause in the form of raffle gifts, given away during quarters & half time. (I forgot so many other businesses who donated! There were SO many raffle items given away!)
All in all, it was a wildly exciting night. I was there with my parents, grandparents, and sister to support many of the students whom I worked with during my years at Newberg High School, as well as my buddies, Colin and Dylan Stone (See photos 3 & 4)
